The Men's Track and field team
looks toward a promising season with
several standouts in both the throws,
sprints, and distance events.
The throws team is led by
Junior Ihekwaba "Felix" Otiji and
Sophmore Jamie Wu. Otiji finished
seventh in the Hammer throw at the
Outdoor ACC Championships last
season, and looks to improve this
year. As a freshman Wu qualified for
the U.S. Jr. Nationals, was sixth in
the ACC in the discus, and tenth in
the shot put.
Senior Ed Hogan takes over for
Brian Montgomery to lead the
distance runners. Last year Hogan
finished fourth in the ACC in the
10,000m run, and placed second at
the IC4A's in the same event.
Junior Paul Gittens is another
team leader. He finished fifth in the
ACC in the 400 meter dash last year,
and will improve this year.
WOMEN'S OUTLOOK
The Women's Track and Field
team is a much improved team over
last season due to many outstanding
new recruits.
As usual, the distance runners
are led by All- American senior Kerrie
Bowes. She placed 3rd in the ACC in
both the 800 and 1500 meter runs,
and last spring finished eighth in the
mile run at the NCAA Champion-
ships. Great things are expected out
of Kerrie Bowes this year.

Webster, and Antoinette Eyombo, will lead the
women's sprint teams. Two outstanding
freshmen, Jocelyn Butler and Candyce Deloatch
are expected to make a huge impact in the

TERP LEADERSHIP
Head Coach Bill Goodman is a dedicated and experienced leader, having spent most of the past 25 years
involved in Maryland Track and Field. The 1975 university of Maryland Graduate has been involved on all levels,
as an athlete, an assistant coach, and now currently as a head coach.
Following his graduation, Goodman became an assistant track coach at Maryland under Frank Costello from
1976-83. Over these seven years in College Park, Goodman helped coach All-Americans Bob Calhoun (Long Jump)
and Dennis Ivory (Triple Jump).
In 1983 Goodman took over the head coaching job at nearby Eleanor Roosevelt High School. He held this
position until 1988. During his tenure at Roosevelt, he led the men to an Indoor State Championship in 1984, and the
girls to a State Cross Country Title in 1986.
Goodman then returned to his alma mater in 1988 to accept the head coaching job, the position he currently
holds. Goodman guided Maryland track through immense changes, the largest occuring in 1995 with the addition
of the $2.5 million James H. Kehoe Track and Field Facility.
As a student-athlete, Goodman excelled both on and off the track. A four yeai: letter-winner, he was the
1973 ACC Indoor/Outdoor long jump champion, and the 1975 IC4A outdoor triple jump champion. He also
qualified for the NCAA's in 1973, 74, and 75. Goodman held the school record in the long jump from 1973-75, and the ACC outdoor record from
1973-86. Goodman received the Alvin Albinoe award for the senior who contributed the most to the team in his four years, and was named a team
captain in 1973, 74 and 75. From 1973-75, Goodman was the vice-president of honorary fraternity Omicron Delta Kappa, representing outstanding
academic leadership achievement. In 1975 he received the ACC plaque for excellence in scholarship and athletics. Goodman was an honorary inductee
in the Golden Key Honor Society.

After graduation Rincon competed for the USA Adidas National Road Racing team. In 1976 he qualified for the Olympic Trials to compete for a
spot on the Olympic Marathon team. In 1978 Rincon became the Road Runner Club of America National Champion in the 20k. Upon his retirement

TERP HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
THERE 'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!!
THE TAMES H. KEHOE TRACK AND FIELD FACHITY
The $2.5 million James H. Kehoe Track
and Field Facility/Ludwig Soccer Field is the
home of the Terrapin track and soccer teams.
The 1,500 seat facility enters it's second year
on campus to rave reviews.
The Track complex, pictured left, is a
fully lighted facility with an all-weather
track and a Bermuda grass playing field.
This field provides the nationally ranked
Maryland soccer teams with one of the best
playing surfaces in the nation.
The primary seating section is situated
on the west end of the complex. In the near
future a $100 million Theater Arts Center,
scheduled to be completed around the turn of
the century, will be built to the north.
The facility is also orientated to accom-
odate the visiting fan. The field is adjacent
to the largest parking lot on campus. Parking
Lot 1, and nearby University Boulevard
Entrance. Traffic flows easily from this
visitor-friendly complex.
The facility is named for James H.
Kehoe, former University Athletic Director
and highly succesful track and field
coach.coach,as well as Terrapins Bob and
Louise Ludwig.
The James H. Kehoe Track and Field Facility is named after the greatest track and field/cross country coach in the history of both Maryland and
Atlantic Coast Conference Athletics. Between 1953 to 1969, Jim Kehoe led Maryland to an unprecedented 38 ACC Championships, eight in
cross country, 15 in indoor track and field, and 15 in outdoor track and field. Kehoe's 30 combined indoor and outdoor conference champion-
ships gives him 19 more championships than the conferences next winningest coach. In fact, the next two winningest coaches are Frank
Costello (11) and Nick Kovalikides (10), the two Maryland coaches to follow Kehoe. This only begins to portray the dynasty Kehoe created.
In the 1970's Kehoe retired as coach and became the athletic director, where he resurrected the Terrapin football program and directed a
basketball success story unmatched in previous years.
The Maryland men 's track and field program holds the Atlantic Coast Conference record for most consecutive (24) and most overall championships (26).

THE^UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND AT COLLEGE PARK
Through an act of state legisla-
ture, the University of Maryland
at College Park has been desig-
nated officially as the state's
flagship campus with a mandate
to become one of the nation's
leading public universities. The
effect of the mandate is for
individuals from all four corners
of the University to aspire toward
excellence, to think great thoughts |
and to become immersed in an
educational enterprise of the
highest caliber. There is an unmistakable momentum for change
and a sense of heightened expectation at College Park.
Academic Stature: One of only 30 public research institutions in the
prestigious 58-member Association of American Universities; among
fewer than ten percent of universities invited to join Phi Beta Kappa.

professional programs in dental hygeine, dentistry, law, medical
technology, medicine, nursing, optometry, osteopathic medicine,
pharmacy, physical therapy, and pediatric medicine.

inventors are managed by the Office of Technology Liason.

Washington metropolitan area. There are more than 2.8 million
